Best IT employer in India -How about in USA?

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) retained its top position as the best IT employer in India, ( I hear my friends laughing so hard) while software major Wipro figured no where among the Top 20 list, as per a survey by industry analysts (seventh annual Dataquest-IDC survey).
IBM was rated the sixth best employer, followed by Capgemini, Infosys, Tavant Technologies and Sun Microsystems.

According to the survey, the average attrition rate was marginally down to 14 per cent from last year's 15 per cent.                                    Infosys
May be thats due to   TCS's ^ new policyof employees to sign a non-compete agreement letter saying they will not join any customer or competitor for a period of six months after their job termination at Infosys.

Its mentioned that they followed innovative HR practices and maintained ethos across geographies to achieve
consistency in workforce. WHAT THE HECK THIS MEANS?

TCS is the number one user of combined H-1 B and L-1 visas, with approx 8000 applications in FY 2006. Wow! I really wonder how many US citizen or Green Cards are working or them?
I had been hearing from my recruiting friends in TCS (US), Satyam that they are told to hire more Citizens or Green Card holders as they started facing backlashes from Senators.

Remember when Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) vice president Phiroz Vandrevala admitted that his company enjoys a competitive advantagebecause of its extensive use of foreign workers in the United States on H-1B and L-1 visas or the news 2 months back where Patni Computer SystemsInc. agreed to pay more than $2.4 million to 607 non-immigrant workers(lucky fellas) following an investigation by the U.S. Department of Labor. Its about time DOL do more investigations on companies exploiting H 1B and L 1 Visa.

But above all its a good sign that many underpaid H1 B's slogging 10-12 hrs a day or the consulting companies exploiting F1 visas are aiming for higher standards or in there words "innovative HR practices and maintained ethos" - Still not sure what it means.

By the way you should start looking for a job WHEN...

=>You see your photo on the new policy on sexual harassment.
=>The Security guard made a complete inventory of my work area.
=>The Human Resources Dept requested an update of my arrest record.
=>The Boss asked if I still had a copy of my 5 year contract.
=> I noticed co-workers measuring my office when I arrived at work.
=> The LAN suddenly began backing up my computer every 10 minutes.
=> A large paper recycling box was placed next to my file cabinets.

Its not TCS which went for such a recruitment policy but Infosys. Just wanted to make that correction in your opinion, although i feel that there is more to this discussion too

Yes you are right .. It was Infosys - I need another coffee...
My frustration is on the companies who bring in their employees to US on H 1 B or L 1 and make them work long hours and pay them half of what they deserve.  These companies are exploiting the work visa.. a complete  overhaul of work Immigration is required.

A note of painful reality needed here on TCS..I used to work in Tata Consultancy Services earlier. Frankly, I was shocked to see the level of staff exploitation as well as lack of ethics in their client work culture, contrary to the general impression created by them in front of the Industry. I remember that they completely copied a major Benchmarking study from one client to another without any sincere effort done at all, happened in front of my eyes.. It is sad to see the American Industry running after and incredibly enriching these kind of firms, who fundamentally grew from highly unethical and exploitation driven business models. Also, it may surprise many of us to know that none of the good and qualified professionals stayed long in TCS in 1990s and beyond. Most of the good genuine professionals were harassed and suppressed politically by the highly predominant and huge number of low-quality and less educated but highly political old timer staff in TCS , and left the firm after demotivation in this kind of negative work environment. Result is that all the low quality and less educated people who have stuck to TCS past 10-20+ years are occupying most of senior positions nowadays, while almost all the good people in the past 10 odd years left due to demotivation and harassment in this highly political work environment.. LET THIS BE A CHALLENGE TO TCS, IF THEY CAN REFUTE THIS FACT.. There are hundreds and maybe thousands of good ex-TCS employees who can vouch for this sad fact..

WHY we allow INFOSYS or TCS of the world to exploit us? we MUST be paid what we deserve , as if we were local US citizens. At the same time we must NOT work LONG hours, like local Americans!
