Green Card Protest

CNN had the first page news when illegals staged a demonstration to grant them legal status but
didn't even cover when Skilled, LEGAL immigrants rallied on the West Lawn of the Capitol yesterday to demand
a faster approach or may be I should say a revamp in the process.
It's interesting that USCIS grants a million Green Cards each year but only 140,000 are for skilled professionals.
Thanks to BBC Washington post and NYtimes(yeah its in page 17-wow!) who at least cared to mention the protest.
I think more than blaming the media it might be the lack of enthusiasm from the million people who have there Green Card pending but only 1000 showed up for protest. A good start though.
I remember my days when I had filled for my Green Card and after waiting so many years I decided to call BCIS(now USCIS) office one day. During those days there used to a person who took the calls(I think they have stopped the practice).
After many calls and putting me on hold many times I was finally able to reach someone who very gladly mentioned that they don't see my file.  I said what you mean? "well we will investigate and let you know" came the answer. After a few what the heck is happening.. had to hang up that phone.
Well after 2 weeks I received a postal mail from Immigration Office.

"file was kept in a shelf which it was not supposed to be"- OMG.. I got scared as that file they talking about
has all the records since my birth, my education,SSN everything .. but couldn't stop laughing as well.

But then things did get faster and I was called for the finger printing - the second time.
-On asking why they are taking the finger print again "the previous prints expired" and I looked at my hand and said to myself -amazing what my fingers can do! I can commit any crime and won't be caught... as my prints changed every year... nah not really -I think the real reason being they keep the records for a year and then discard them. Still don't know but thats what I think.

Ladies and Gentlemen the recruiting lesson you learn from this experience was about that phone call I made. So go ahead and pick that phone.  I am still so glad I did that as I got my GC few motnhs after that scary call.
