Private office OR Open office / Cubicle?

Private office OR Open office / cubicle?

Sometime back a recruiter told me that on the employees first day, after the orientation the new employee called and said that "how come you never mentioned that a Associate V.P position(Title Changed) would be sitting in a cubicle?" Now in her previous company she had a private office with a view.

An open-space office reduces the psychological distance between the various levels of a company. The upper managament is easily reachable and so would be employees which could make them feel important or may be they would feel as micro managed. You certaineky can exchange more smiles.
You certaily save a lot of money from facilities budgets. The problem comes when there's not much difference beween the role of two sr. management but one gets a Private room due to his/her title as private office still reigns as the primary means of allocating space for those higher in the hierarchy. Then you always have that one loud phone talker.

Private office have fewer distractions, you can use your speakerphone , make yourself more comfortable, have an ipod/radio running, working on confidential project etc.
Private office doesn't create a team environment, it costs more, interaction between co -workers is lower.

Both has its pros and cons .. A lot depends on your personal preference but your office space does matter a lot. And here's to my cubicle... Enjoy
