Ready to Vote? The HR perspective
Obama or McCain.. There will be a lot of changes in HR after a long time. Some major decisions will be made.
Make sure you are voting for the right candidate. I will not debate who would be better HR president but a
lot of issues are at stake for coming years.
1) Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA)
Obama for it
McCain kind of undecided... may pass along with other bills
2) Immigration
No ones talking about immigrations even though last couple of years that was a hot topic...
and I don't have to tell you why?
Obama & McCain Legalization. The difference comes with McCain wants a border and Obama won't mind putting
restrictions on H1-B's and other employer visas.
3) OSHA and Ergonomics.
I might get a cushioned sleeping chair to work under Obama and I will keep my current working chair with McCain.
4) Minimum Wages-
This one's easy-
Obama will like to increase the Min wage with Inflation($9.50 an hour) and McCain unsure (keep the same I would say)
5) Patriot Employer Act-
Obama - Tax breaks to companies keeping jobs in US
McCain- Status quo
Verdict:- doesn't look like it’s going to pass unless compromised.
6) Americans with Disabilities Act to Restoration Act.
Courts and employers could no longer consider mitigating measures to determine whether a person is disabled.
Both the candidates like this bill and will sign it.. Sure to pass
7) Civil Rights Act -
Provision that eliminate caps on compensatory and punitive damages awarded in discrimination cases++++
Obama co-sponsored it.. So it’s a green light from him
McCain would oppose
8)The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act- Would make easier to sue your employer for discrimination
Obama - Supports it
McCain - Opposes
9) The Healthy Families Act
A good chance of passing with democrats controlling both the houses
It requires a employer with 15 or more employees to provide 7 paid sick days in a year.
Obama cosponsored it
McCain.. Yet to decide. I think he would go along
So these are 9 important issues that's going to change the face of HR in two weeks
