I know you ain't Recruiting on Twitter.
know you ain't recruiting on Twitter.
Are you really recruiting? With twitter or other social media? I see so many recruiters and sourcers working up and posting
and talking about things which are unrelated to me but is it related to you as a job seeker or is it related to recruiting?
What are these recruiters doing posting every 5-10 min on twitter. i see so many recruiters talk about unwanted(I don't need to know things) in the name of networking. Are you really reaching the right network?
I am strong proponent of self branding or reaching out to social media to put your name out there and people will reach out to you or you reaching out to networks so keep twitting And I do understand some personal stuff, some branding , some playing but tweeting every 10 min? I don't get that.
Its not because you can't do it but how are you so free to do that?
Sorry but I don't think you are working or neither you are recruiting or for that matter sourcing.
You must be superman if you are tweeting every 10 min AND still making your goals or your company is wasting money on you.
Many of you are saying " oh yeah" you don't know the value of twitter or maybe have no clue on how to use it but the point is when are you recruiting for your current needs?
I can understand Jim Stroud tweeting every 5 min as social media is part of his job but not all recruiters are social media managers and that goes for all those writing lengthy email responses on recruiting forums or blogs or ning sites.
Spending time on social media is NOT waste of time but spending ALL the time might be a waste.
The question is whether its consuming all your day? Are you really able to recruit tweeting every 5 minutes?
So are you in twitter all the time - check out web based time management tools like http://www.rescuetime.com and measure your Productivity.. You may need it.
May be I am not a good oneliner? (it can't be a conversation) but I am not quitting Twitter or neither asking you to quit. Like all new tools or rather web 2.0 ; its all about how you use the tool and not let the tool get over you.
Its all about control. If your main goal is sourcing don't let twitter compel you to write just about anything; Stick to what you are there for.
I should point out couple of ideal twitter recruiters who stuck to their message about recruiting or branding there company /website . You are there for Connecting/Networking about your co's JOBS.

Rithesh, you sound like me - this is actually what I've been saying as well for quite some time now. Check out this post on Fistful of Talent titled, "How Social Networking Has Made Recruiters the Laughing Stock of Corporate America" at www.fistfuloftalent.com/2008/09/how-social-netw.html
Keep up the great work

I have been a strong supporter of recruiters having a social media presence. Like a job board, newsletter, LinkedIn, it is a tool.
I spend a lot of time on Twitter as my focus is on IT in Minneapolis. There is a high concentration of who I am looking for using it so it seems a good idea to be where they hang out.
LinkedIn has been a good source of names but I have had more referrals and placements from my relationships on Twitter.
As for Josh's link to the post I do disagree with some/much of it.
Katie Tierney is a colleague in Minneapolis and was on a Social Media Panel two weeks ago at our Minnesota Recruiters event. She spoke about the success their company has had which turned into this ERE article, When Social Networking Works http://www.ere.net/2008/11/24/when-social-networking-works/
Like any tool Social Media has it's strengths and weaknesses and some can make it work better than others.
